Environmental Specialist (CA)


Specific Plant/Project/Site:

This position will be located at the Malburg Generating Station in Los Angeles, CA and will support all CEM plants in CA.


Reports To:

Vice President – Environmental, Health and Safety


Purpose:

The Environmental Specialist (CA) will work in the environmental, health and safety (EHS) department and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with permit conditions and regulatory requirements in CA. The primary focus will be on compliance and regulatory reporting as required by Federal and State of California permits. This person will also work with plant personnel in data aggregation and quality assurance.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitor CEMS and DAHS, provide reporting data to the Vice President – EHS and Plant Managers as required to facilitate timely reporting Responsible for regulatory and compliance reporting in CA Assist with compliance, including but not limited to audits, at the plants to assess compliance with laws, regulations, and CEM standards. Work with plant environmental personnel in data aggregation and quality assurance. This is a hands-on position and may be asked to learn some operational responsibilities and cross-train in different functionality


Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Environmental assessments will involve considerable walking and lesser amounts of stooping and climbing at plant locations. Must be able to endure conditions such as extreme temperatures, loud noises, fumes, dust, etc. Hearing and vision required. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license


Required/Desired Skills or Experience:

Experience in operating and maintaining CEMS and DAHS, with the ability to train and coordinate others. Experience in regulatory reporting to comply with environmental permits in CA. Above average computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite Familiarity and experience with SQL databases preferred. Willingness to travel up to 10% to visit and work at power plants. Strongly prefer power plant or industrial compliance experience


Educational Requirements/Preferences:

HS diploma required, environmental degree strongly preferred
