Location & Ownership
Hobbs Generating Station is located ten miles west of Hobbs, in Southeast New Mexico. The plant is owned by Lea Power Partners, LLC.
Engineering, Development, Construction and Technology
Colorado Energy developed the project together with Genova Power Solutions. Colorado Energy constructed the plant using ‘gray market’ components from two abandoned projects in Mississippi and Tennessee. The plant includes two Mitsubishi ‘F’ Class gas fired combustion turbine/generators and a GE steam turbine/generator with two Aalborg HRSGs.
Innovation
- Major components of this plant were obtained from two power projects whose construction was abandoned due to lack of long-term power purchase agreements. This includes the Mitsubishi ‘F’ Class generators from Tennessee and a GE generator and two HRSGs from Mississippi.
- The project includes an air-cooled condenser as opposed to the traditional cooling tower and water cooled condenser. This reduced the demand for precious New Mexico water by approximately 90%.
