Location & Ownership
Brush 4D is located in Brush, Colorado on the Eastern plains of the state. The plant is located on a multi-plant, multi-owner site known collectively as the Brush Power Facility. Brush 4D is owned by Bicent Power LLC.
Engineering, Development, Construction and Technology
Colorado Energy provided EPC services for the combined cycle phase of construction. Commercial operation for the upgrade was May 2002. B4D is currently a 147 MW combined cycle facility with two Westinghouse 251AA gas steam turbines, two NEM HRSGs and one GE Steam Turbine. The plant is dispatchable on a daily start and stop basis, with retention of rapid start simple cycle capability by the utilization of stack dampers.
Innovation
- Following operation for two years as a simple cycle facility, the plant was upgraded to a combined cycle facility by Colorado Energy.
- The plant is equipped with Automatic Generation Control (AGC) for the power purchaser as a revenue enhancement for the plant owners.
- The O&M staff concurrently provides the same services for the other plants on site as well as a plant site a few miles away, the ManChief Electric Generation Station, providing innovative “economy of scale” savings for all plant owners.
- CE engineered improvements in the plant output and efficiency to maximize revenue and asset value.
