Brush 1&3 is located in Brush, Colorado on the Eastern plains
of the state. The plant is located on a multi-plant, multi-owner
site known collectively as the Brush Power Projects. A diverse
and talented staff of Colorado Energy Management plant operators
and maintenance professionals provides all operations and maintenance
functions for the plant, including major maintenance items such
as planned outages and periodic equipment upgrades. The same
staff concurrently provides the same services for the other
plants on site as well as another plant site a few miles away,
the Manchief
Electric Generation Station, providing innovative
"economy of scale" savings for all plant owners. Owned by Brush
Power, LLC, a subsidiary of Centennial
Power, Inc., a subsidiary of Bicent Power Company, Brush 1&3 is a 75 MW combined
cycle and simple cycle facility with two Westinghouse 251AA
Gas Turbines, one Vogt HRSG and one GE Steam Turbine.
Originally designed as a Cogeneration Facility, Brush 1 operators continue to provide thermal energy
in the form of hot water to an adjacent 18 acre greenhouse. The facility is automatically dispatched, daily start and stop, with rapid remote start of the simple cycle gas turbine. This plant is equipped with Automatic Generation Control (AGC) for the power purchaser as a revenue enhancement for the plant owners.
Design, development, and construction were overseen by CEM personel, and our O&M Division has operated the plant since it achieved commercial operation in October of 1990. Originally designed as a two-on-one facility, one gas turbine was separated from the HRSG to operate as a fast start simple cycle machine in June of 1999.
